I have never seen Corey Spinks fight so I dont know anything about him. Mayorga is 4-1 and Im flirting with the idea of laying a few dimes on it. Who has seen Spinks fight? Whats he all about? Who the hell did he take the belt from at 147?

Spich, what do you know about this guy?

Spinks beat an Italian named Michele Piccirillo (sp?) for the title. He had earlier lost a close decision to him. The ONLY other fighter he fought who was HALFWAY decent was Rafael Pineda, who he beat on a tech. decision after a headbutt.
Mayorga has beaten Forrest twice, and pummeled Andrew Lewis.
Interestingly, they have both been involved in several fights either stopped, or playing a big role with headbutts.
I can't recommend backing Spinks at all. Mayorga will either KO him, or there may be some value in a long shot prop for a cut or headbutt.

you guys are probably right.....spinks just doesn`t have the firepower to keep mayorga honest.....

that said,he`s a lefty....he`s slick....and he`s got good boxing people behind him....

spinks beat piccirillo easily both times....the difference in the 2 decisions?....don king was his promoter the second time around.....they were both in italy....

i was thinking about putting a small play on spinks...but vs a somewhat limited slugger-type,rafael pineda, spinks was lured into a slugfest and looked bad against a guy he shouldn`t have struggled against....

mayorga is obviously looking way past spinks....and that`s dangerous....

i was kinda looking at a guy nobody`s heard of as an underdog this weekend....if i can get some more info on it i`ll post it....but,it`s a longshot...and then some...

I like Mayorga in this fight, but the caveat remains Mayorga's stamina. In his last bout against Forrest, he began to lose steam late in the fight after depleting himself in his efforts to unsuccessfully knock out Forrest early on in the fight.

So, if Spinks can avoid being knocked out, he may have the opportunity to demonstrate his boxing ability after Mayorga tires. This should happen after 6-7 rounds in my estimation. That is when opportunity should present itself for Spinks, should he last that long.

Spinks has heart, but no juice. He will paint
his opponent, but doesn't have a howitzer in
either hand. He will most likely be taken out
inside the distance. Too bad. I'm looking for
a nice priced puppie to yoke Mayorga, but I
don't see the light hitting Spinks as the guy.

Mayorga will pay the piper someday me thinks.
Lets hope we are on the bandwagon BEFORE it
leaves the station. I will probably take RM
by KO-TKO-DQ at -140 or so rather than lay
the 4-1. I also feel it's possible that Johnnie
Louise will upset the Rock. But I don't have a
very strong opinion on that either. Still trying to determone the best wagering options
this W/E.

Yes, there are lines around town, basically
-400, +300 coming back. But I would shop around.
An example of this is Rahman-Ruiz. At Mandalay
Bay they have Rock @-140, +120 coming back. At
some of the other properties they have Rock as high -190. Sure, a small scalp is possible, but
it really isn't worth getting out of bed for.
Give yourself time to peruse the different books
if you can. It can pay off at times.

I took Piny up on their "Not Spinks by KO" proposition @ -1550. It immediately jumped to -1745 after I placed my wager. I am trying to expose myself to the least amount of risk this weekend, while still being in on some of the action.

This will be my first wager on boxing since the De La Hoya vs Mosley bout, which took place in September. In that particular fight, I liked "Not De La Hoya by KO" after discovering "Not Mosley by KO" was too pricey.

I am really excited about this weekend's matchups.

a couple tidbits of info i came across this morning.......

bert sugar was on a local sports talk show and said that mayorga was 90-4 as an amateur boxer in nicaragua.......and all 4 losses came vs lefty`s.....

he also said that the winner of rahman/ruiz gets the #5 seed in the BCS standings.....i spit coffee onto the dashboard when he dropped that line.....he`s a funny guy.....

another tidbit on mayorga drawing the ire of spinks` boys in the east st louis "hood"...from one of spinks` mgmt team.......maybe mayorga needs to put a lid on it....here`s what he said

"The real problem with Mayorga's comments is that they are so offensive and personal that he's raised the ire of Cory's boys in the hood from St. Louis. The comments he made referencing Cory's deceased mother already had these guys - who are coming to the fight in droves - literally up in arms. I really hope his latest comments don't find their way to them. Both Cory's brother and best friend were shot to death in St. Louis under circumstances that involved much less prestige and money than this event. These guys literally want to kill Mayorga. I hope nothing happens to him before or after the fight - but when you act like a thug - sometimes you get treated like one. Ask Tupac and Biggy.

I'm sure as shyte not condoning any of this and Kevin(cory`s manager) is doing all he can to diffuse the situation - but the threats are real and many of these guys have done time. Kevin told DK to increase the security around Mayorga and Kevin's really trying to keep anything from happening. This is all so nuts. I'm 99% sure this will all blow over and turn out to be nothing but . . . who needs this kind of drama for a sporting event".

now, nothing may happen...but the guy that told me this(in response to a question i had regarding mayorga`s trash talking)doesn`t just talk to hear himself talk...

as i said,it probably won`t amount to much....but,the possibility is there for something crazy to happen....(and i`m not talking about some yo-yo parachuting into the ring)....

let`s hope it all stays cool...

I must say that I agree with you there Spinch. Mayorga has got to slow down with the insults. I am beginning to think that this is also being egged on by Don King. King, at the end of the day, is only concerned with lining his pockets. And what better way to make a PPV event more successful than by surrounding it with controversy.

I think King has a responsibility to let his fighter know that this is no longer necessary. Mayorga has escaped poverty. He no longer needs to take such risks to promote his name. He only needs to continue fighting with the intensity and tenacity that has won him championship belts.

So I just think that some of his behavior is influenced by his promoter, Don King.

Well, discourse is all well and good, but how does the "Boyz in the Hood" situation help us
in our wagering decisions? I am not saying this to be a smart a** at all, but we are about making a buck I believe and this at least is my
main focus. I don't think a tactical nuclear
weapon can intimidate Mayorga. If Cory loses
his composure, as he well may, he may get KO'D.
I still go with the animal over the tactician
here. Mayorga has some serious whiskers. Should
be a juicy one either way.

Im cutting and pasting this from Fightnews.

Mayorga comments draw anger!
At the press conference in October that announced Mayorga's welterweight unification with IBF champ Cory Spinks, Mayorga listened while Spinks dedicated the fight to his recently deceased mother Zadie Mae. Mayorga then promised to reunite Spinks with his mother by sending him to heaven when they fight on December 13.

This is from today:
Some quotes from the assembled combatants:

Cory Spinks: I’m through with all the talking. I’ve had enough of it. The “Jinx” is here to stay.

Ricardo Mayorga: (Reader discretion is advised''') I want to thank Don King for giving me the opportunity to prove that I am the best welter weight in the world. Next, I want to apologize to any ladies in the room. (Turning to Spinks) I am going to make you my punk bitch and f**k you in the a**' Your father should have been a farmer so he could give you some eggs (a Spanish reference to “balls”) to make sure you get in the ring with me. When I am through with you, I’ll send you to heaven to be with your dead mother' After the fight, I’ll have my two belts over each of my arms, and yours I will be standing on' (To his credit, Spinks looked straight ahead into the audience, expressionless.)

(At this point, a member of Spinks’ corner grabbed the microphone in front of Spinks and shot back, “You just better make damn sure you have f**king security on Saturday so you make it to the ring. Your a** is ours on Saturday night' Your own trainer knows your a** is ours. Just make sure you have f**king security so you make it to the ring'”

A near melee almost broke out, but security was on hand to keep the parties separated and order was restored.)

Franks, not only is this good stuff - you wanna know whats being said in the build up to the fight. This is a good way to gauge everyones emotions.

I hear ya as I have read all this stuff also.
I just like to cut through the hype and not get
too influenced by dramatics and s**t talking.
OK, I won't make any further comments regarding
this. Good luck to all.

Well, Spinks fought a perfect fight and won a clear-cut decision. This fight as much exposed Mayorga as it did lifted up Spinks' rep.
I was only on the Spinks not by KO prop.
